Thisday to launch weekly newspaper in SA

Thisday (Pty) Ltd will not mount a legal challenge to the acquisition by Edgars Consolidated Stores (Edcon) of the CNA retail chain and will focus its energies on launching a new national weekly newspaper in South Africa, the company said on Thursday.

While wishing Edcon every success in developing CNA’s brand, Thisday said it would now concentrate together with its Nigerian partners in building bridges of understanding across the African continent.

To this end a newspaper called ”Thisday” would be launched early in the new year.

Editorial director designate John Matisonn told Sapa: ”Thisday, like its Nigerian counterpart, will cross racial lines and national barriers and we will aim to become a trustworthy source of news, analysis and opinion for all South Africans about their society and their continent.”

The main editorial offices will be in Sandton and the newspaper will employ reporters in all nine provinces, Matisonn said. – Sapa
