Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s former personal banker, Dikeledi Seakalema, will continue her testimony in the fraud and theft trial of the African National Congress Women’s League president on Wednesday.
Madikizela-Mandela and broker Addy Moolman have pleaded not guilty on 60 charges of fraud and 26 of theft, allegedly involving R942 360.
The state alleges that letters with the ANCWL’s letterhead and Madikizela-Mandela’s signature were used to fraudulently obtain loans from Saambou Bank in the names of bogus league employees.
The theft charges relate to amounts of R360 which were deducted from loan applicants’ bank accounts for a funeral policy that allegedly did not exist.
Seakalema on Tuesday testified that the account of the funeral policy scheme, Falac, was held at her branch of First National Bank.
On two occasions, Madikizela-Mandela instructed Seakamela to transfer amounts — first R7 450 and then between R2 000 and R3 000 — to the account of Pierre Waki Gosani.
The court earlier heard Gosani was one of Madikizela-Mandela’s personal assistants.
The money in the account came from a transfer of R7 450 from a company with which Moolman was involved, as well as amounts deducted from loan applicants’ accounts, Seakamela said. – Sapa
