US KEEP AN EYE ON THE TALIBAN

LEAFLETS featuring pictures of Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar and the license plate of one of his cars have been dropped from US planes over Afghanistan. The leaflets in Pashto and English were released Monday by the US Department of Defence. They feature a pair of angry clear eyes above a caption, which reads: ”We are watching!” Another picture shows a part of a car with a license plate in Arabic as well as Omar’s profile in cross-hairs. The leaflets were dropped by US planes Friday. The Pentagon did not specify in which area of Afghanistan they had been released. US officials have admitted that US airstrikes are targeting Taliban leaders. US commandos October 20 raided Omar’s compound in the southeastern city of Kandahar. The one-eyed leader of the Taliban has banned photography and refused to have his picture taken since taking power in 1996.- Sapa-AFP
