ONE patient remained in a serious but stable condition at the Ga-Rankuwa Hospital and three others were stable by Friday after a suspected racially motivated shooting near Rustenburg earlier this week when alleged gunman Lucas Ignatius Dreyer opened fire on nine motor vehicles. Dreyer (42) from Wolwekrans near Krugersdorp, armed with a .303 rifle and apparently drunk, allegedly fired several shots at nine passing motorists before being arrested in Maanhaarand hours later. Seven people sustained gunshot wounds and seven others suffered minor injuries in the incident in the North West province. Ga-Rankuwa Hospital chief executive officer Dr Sibongile Zungu said on Friday evening they were monitoring a wounded male patient closely. ”The man… transferred to our hospital, was shot in the chest and arm. He is in a serious but stable condition. But we are checking his state constantly…” Zungu said the second patient, a woman shot in the eye, was in a stable condition, and added it was not clear if she would have eyesight in her affected eye. ”We will only know if the patient is able to see again with the wounded eye once the specialist treating her removes the bandages.” – Sapa
