A COMBINED exercise between the navies of South Africa, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay will take place off Cape Point from March 25 to 28. SA Navy representative Lieutenant Commander Lisa Hendricks said on Tuesday the manoeuvres were to practise combined operations between the navies in the South Atlantic ocean and to exercise standard international operational procedures. The Brazilian frigates Niteroi and Bosisio, the submarine Tupi and the replenishment vessel Almiralte Gastao Motta will take part in the exercise along with the Argentinian frigates Ara Robinson and Ara Spiro, and the Uruguayan frigate Montevideo. The South African Navy ships in the exercise will be the SAS Drakensberg, SAS Makhanda, SAS Isaac Dyobha, SAS Galeshewe, SAS Umkhonto, SAS Umzimkulu, SAS Umhloti and SAS Thekwini. – Sapa
