Everybody wants to be famous, but sadly, few will be. It’s far easier to just support those lucky souls who have made it to the big time, and these are some of the people taking part in the National School of the Arts’s (NSA) Festival of Fame, featuring the “truly famous, newly famous and about to be famous”.
The festival takes place in Johannesburg from July 20 to 22, in association with the Johannesburg Development Agency and the Civic Theatre, and the programme features performers in many genres — music, dance, drama, comedy, art and even soap stars.
Highlights on July 20 include a young artists exhibition at the NSAGallery; a battle of the bands; a master class by French violinist Philippe Graffin at the NSAMusic Hall; an appearance by the Isidingo cast at the Civic’s Tesson Theatre; Theatresports at the Actors’ Centre; a drumming workshop at the NSAMusic Hall; the NSAFestivalOrchestra at the WitsGreat Hall; and PaulSlabolepszy and Bill Flynn’s Running Riot at theTesson.
July 21 brings the one-man play Tsafendas at the NSADownstairs Theatre; Sibongile Khumalo and friends at the Civic’s Nelson Mandela Theatre; the Wits Jazz Ensemble; the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra with Graffin at the Nelson Mandela Theatre; and much more. July 22 is a schools’ day, again with an all-day line-up of activities.
