Sweet revenge for chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs got sweet revenge for their recent defeat in the Coca-Cola Cup final when they were beaten 1-0 by Jomo Cosmos in a controversial final at the FNB stadium when they defeated Cosmos 2-0 in a Castle Premiership match played at Olympia Park on Saturday.

Chiefs led 1-0 at half-time.

Chiefs veteran former Bafana Bafana midfield star John ”Shoes” Moshoeu got Amakhosi off to a boiling start when he netted his first goal since rejoining Chiefs two months ago. Moshoeu cleverly latched on to Phumlani Mkhize cross and beat goalkeeper Avril Phali in the sixth minute to give the home side an early lead.

Chiefs were full value for their 1-0 lead at half-time. They were the more direct team and looked hungrier for the win.

Amakhosi could have been 2-0 ahead in the 14th minute. Both Mkhize and Arthur Zwane missed a tremendous cross that fooled the Cosmos defence but with the goal at their mercy both Mkhize and Zwane failed to connect the ball.

Cosmos failed to get out of first gear until the 32nd minute when their World Cup midfielder Teboho Mokoena tested goalkeeper Brian Baloyi with a powerful shot. But two minutes later Cosmos should have drawn level.

Ezenkosi’s Mozambique striker Manuel ”Tico Tico” Bucuane brought out the best in Baloyi who parried his close range shot and from the rebound, Chiefs defender Patrick Mabedi scooped Essau Kanyenda’s shot off his goalline.

Chiefs wrapped up the three points when substitute David Radebe thumped home the second goal after some tremendous work from striker Kabamba Musasa who had defender Thabang Molefe well beaten on the left, squared to Radebe who made no mistake with a clinical finish in the 56th minute.

Mabedi denied Cosmos a goal in the 67th minute with another brilliant goalline clearance from Bucuane. The Cosmos striker broke through and managed to get past Baloyi but Mabedi, the Malawi international captain showed great anticipation when he rushed to his goal line and managed to head Bucuane’s goalbound shot off the line. – Sapa
