Australia looked set to move through to the World Cup cricket final after rain stopped play at 5pm local time in their semi-final encounter with Sri Lanka at St George’s Park on Tuesday.
After making 212 for seven in their innings, the world champions restricted Sri Lanka to 123 for seven off 38.1 overs when the rain drove the players from the field.
Under the Duckworth-Lewis system for rain-interrupted matches, Sri Lanka were 49 runs short of the target of 172 they would have needed for victory after 38 overs. – Sapa
