Three men have been arrested in Nigeria’s economic capital, Lagos, in possession of human skulls and other body parts, a police spokesperson said on Thursday.
The men were arrested on Wednesday night after a routine police check around Oshodi area of the city, Emmanuel Ighodalo said.
”The suspects were caught with seven human skulls, severed hands, fingers and a woman’s breast concealed in cellophane bags,” he said.
After interrogation, the men confessed to have been in the business of procuring human parts for unidentified ritualists since 2001, he added.
”The men said they usually get the human parts from mortuaries and cemeteries,” Ighodalo said.
He said the suspects would appear in court soon.
Authorities believe hundreds of Nigerians, mostly women and children, are killed for ritual purposes every year. – Sapa-AFP
