SA Equity Commission starts face-to-face visits

South Africa’s Commission for Employment Equity (CEE) on Thursday began the roll-out of its program of on-site visits, with a visit to the head offices of information technology company IBM South Africa to monitor the implementation of employment equity in the workplace.

CEE chairperson Professor Mapule Ramashala led the commission in obtaining face-to-face information on the employment equity progress at IBM.

Ramashala commented that this visit was useful in providing additional information on how IBM was implementing the Employment Equity Act and in addressing some of the critical issues and challenges faced by the company.

She added that the company also shared with them the best policies in a number of areas aimed at promoting diversity and the elimination of discrimination.

“This is the first in the number of employers that will be visited by the Commission,” Ramashala added. – I-Net Bridge
