The world’s best-loved statesman, Nelson Mandela, turns 85 on Friday and well-wishers can now send their personal congratulations to him on the internet.
The International Marketing Council, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, has created a link to a Mandela birthday page on the web portal, www.safrica.info, which enables visitors to the site to post their personalised birthday messages to Madiba, the council said on Monday.
The Nelson Mandela birthday webpage will remain open until the end of July and carries the full programme of events leading up to and surrounding Madiba’s birthday. This includes the dates and times of all television programmes and interviews, and the opening of the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Johannesburg.
All birthday messages posted on the website will be forwarded to the Nelson Mandela Foundation and a ”Madiba birthday message book” will be compiled and presented to Mandela to stand as a record for his 85th birthday.
