South Africa’s Under-19 side helped lift a little of the gloom felt by their senior colleagues when they clinched a 2-0 series victory with an innings and 163-run win over England in the third Test at Chelmsford on Tuesday.
Resuming 280 runs behind, England offered little resistance apart from an unbeaten 116 from James Hildreth, who hit 17 fours and a six in his 189-ball knock, but he could not prevent the South Africans claiming the remaining six wickets needed for victory.
Heinrich le Roux finished with nine wickets in the match as he followed a five-wicket haul in the first innings with four for 60. Francois du Plessis weighed in with three for 39.
The victory came just a day after Graeme Smith’s South Africans lost the third Test against England at Trent Bridge to leave the five-match series poised at 1-1 with two to play. — Sapa-AFP
