At least 23 people were killed and 109 injured after powerful Typhoon Dujuan struck southern China, state media said on Wednesday.
Twenty people died in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, which neighbours Hong Kong, according to the Shenzhennews.com website.
Sixteen were migrant workers killed when buildings collapsed on a construction site.
Twenty other workers on the site were injured, the report said.
All together, a total of 98 people were injured in the city, with 20 seriously injured and 78 slightly injured, said the Xinhua news agency website.
Xinhua also reported the same death toll in Shenzhen as given by the Shenzhen website, citing government sources.
Two others are missing in Shenzhen, Shenzhennews.com said.
The typhoon, which struck Guangdong province where Shenzhen is located on Tuesday evening, has left a trail of destruction. Three more were killed in other areas of the province and another 11 people were injured, according to the latest information.
Of the casualties outside Shenzhen, two died and 11 were injured in Shanwei city, including a six-year-old child crushed by a falling ceiling.
The other death was reported in the Guangdong capital Guangzhou. — Sapa-AFP
