Newly promoted Zulu Royals earned their first point of the season when they played to a 1-1 draw with Moroka Swallows in a Castle Premiership match at Kings Park soccer stadium on Sunday.
Royals, beaten 2-1 by Manning Rangers in the first game of this season a fortnight ago, led 1-0 at the interval. Lucky Maselesele opened the score in the 39th minute when he drove a thunderous shot outside the penalty box, which gave Swallows goalie, Greg Itafia, no chance.
Swallows equalised in the 71st minute through Kerryn Jordan’s shot.
Poor defensive work saw Sundowns lose their second game of the season when they went down 3-1 to Santos in a Castle Premiership game at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday.
A 79th minute goal by Mulekelayi Kanku earned Ajax Cape Town a 2-1 victory over Dynamos in a tough Castle Premiership soccer match played at the Giyani Stadium on Sunday.
Ajax led 1-0 at half-time. Joseph Ngake put the visitors into the lead in the 37th minute and Adam Ndlovu levelled matters within a minute of the start of the second half.
Ironically, though it was the Limpopo side that dominated matters from the opening whistle and they had the upperhand over the urban Warriors for most of the match.
The whistle had hardly blown for the start of the second half when Ndlovu equalised and as the match progressed, Dynamos continued to exert more pressure on Gordon Igesund’s side.
The home side looked the more likely to score, but their strikers could not put it together. Dynamos were stunned when Kanku’s shot drove into the home team’s goal.
It was Dynamos first defeat after they drew 1-1 with Santos in their season opener at the same venue three weeks ago. On the other hand it was Ajax’s second win. They hammered Hellenic 3-1 in a Cape Town derby in their first match.
Santos led 1-0 at the interval.
Santos opened the score in the 12th minute when Teboho Tsiu centred and Marawaan Bantam had loads of time to steady and shoot.
The visitors equalised in the 61st minute when the ball went to the left to substitute Carlos Scott, whose shot went between Wardle and the post to hit the net.
Two minutes later Santos again took the lead when Moloi broke down the left, centred and Bantam was in a good position to score his brace.
Santos increased their lead in the 86th minute when Solomon centred and substitute Thembile Kanono scored with his first touch. — Sapa
