Five-time world champion Michael Schumacher could retire from formula one once his contract runs out in 2006, according to his manager on Friday.
However, Willi Weber told Die Welt newspaper that there was no truth in rumours that the Ferrari driver will bring an end to his career at the end of this season.
”That’s more like a fairytale,” Weber said. ”There’s nothing to it.”
Schumacher is set to win a sixth world title in the last race of the season in Japan and rumours of the imminent arrival of Renault’s Spanish ace Fernando Alonso were quickly played down by both the French team and Ferrari.
Webber did say that the Italian team would have to start thinking about securing the best man to replace the German.
”Michael has to retire some day and Ferrari has to think about the period after his contract runs out in 2006,” added Weber. — Sapa-AFP
