Birds outshine Stars

Moroka Swallows kept up their early challenge at the top of the Castle Premiership when they squeezed out a 1-0 win over hard-working Silver Stars in their fixture played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

There was no score at halftime.

The first half was evenly balanced but the Birds’ experience was the telling factor. Stars, who were promoted to the PSL at the start of the season, have not won a league match in the top flight this season. They have drawn four matches.

The win sees the Birds fly into third place with 14 points, the same number as Kaizer Chiefs. But Chiefs have a match in hand and have a superior goal difference.

Stars are in third bottom spot with four points from seven matches. The PSL rookies from the Limpopo province will have to show more killer instinct in front of the goals if they are to survive in the PSL this season.

Swallows took command of the game after the break and were rewarded in the 76th minute when their new Zimbabwean striker, Alois Ngwerume, blasted home the only goal of the game to give Birds their fourth league win from seven starts. — Sapa
