Chiefs back on top

Kaizer Chiefs reclaimed the leadership of the Castle Premiership when they scored a hard fought 1-0 win over bottom-of-the log Hellenic at the FNB stadium on Wednesday night. There was no score at halftime.

Hellenic held their own in a goalless first half. Both teams’ veteran midfielders, Amakhosi’s John ”Shoes” Moshoeu and Hellenic’s Ernest Mtawali shone for their respective teams in the opening 45 minutes.

Moshoeu leaves in the morning with Bafana Bafana for Mauritius where the South Africans meet the home side in a Cosafa Cup first round match on Saturday. The game is also part of Bafana’s preparation for the African Nations Cup finals to be staged in Tunisia form January 24.

Chiefs had the upper hand in a a fast flowing match in which both sides created goal scoring chances.

The only goal was scored by David Radebe in the 69th minute. – Sapa
