The South African under-19 cricket team won the Commonwealth Tournament in India after beating Bangladesh by 250 runs in a one-sided final at Faridabad, New Delhi, on Sunday.
The locals won the toss and opted to bat. They made a massive 369 for the loss of three wickets.
The Man of the Match and Player of the Tournament, AB de Villiers, scored an imposing 192 off 144 balls. Captain Imraan Khan hammered 96 from 109 deliveries and JP Duminy chipped in with 59 off 45 balls.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 119 in 33,3 overs.
Paceman Heinrich le Roux snapped up four wickets for 31 runs, left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso finished with two for 25 in 10 and Craig Thyssen also took two for 16 in 8 overs.
Vernon Philander was voted bowler of the tournament with eight wickets for 93 runs.
Lawrence Mahatlane, coach of the South African team, was ecstatic.
”We came to enjoy the experience and knowing that India is a difficult country to tour, we set out to do well on the cricket field and I am grateful that we performed beyond expectation, he said.
”We left South Africa with 14 boys and we return with 14 young men.”
