Shakes reaches settlement with Safa

Former Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba said on Tuesday he had reached a settlement with his former employers, the South African Football Association (Safa).

Mashaba said in a statement: ”Today a settlement has been reached between the parties and the written settlement agreement will be signed shortly.”

Safa suspended Mashaba earlier this month from his post for seven days for ”breaching” aspects of his contract. But the Johannesburg High Court ruled subsequently that the suspension was unlawful.

Mashaba told the Mail & Guardian Online on Wednesday that the two parties had reached a compromise on Tuesday and he expected the agreement to be signed before the weekend.

Asked about his future plans, he said he had nothing in mind at the moment, and that he needed time to recover.

‘I’ve suffered a trauma. I need time to recover — then I’ll be able to make up my mind about the road ahead.”.

Mashaba said the details of the agreement would remain confidential as was provided for in the service agreement between the parties.

Safa’s acting chief executive officer Albert Mokoena refused to comment on the matter, saying: ”Safa’s lawyer has not informed me about the settlement and his cellphone is on voice mail”. – Sapa
