Banyana Banyana beat Angola 6-2 in an Olympic Games qualifier at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Sunday.
Before the match, Banyana Banyana coach Gregory Mashilo said: ‘We are expecting a tough match by virtue of Angola being a closed book. Our plan is to score as many goals as possible on Sunday in order to ease the pressure for the return match.”
The South African senior women’s national soccer side qualified for the second round after eliminating neighbours Namibia, while Angola beat Zimbabwe.
On Sunday South African striker Portia Modise scored a hat-trick with the other three coming from England-based Veronica Phewa (2) and Mpumi Nyandeni.
