The new owners of Hellenic are hoping to start their battle to avoid relegation with a win against Jomo Cosmos at PAM Brink Stadium in Springs on Sunday.
Hellenic, one of the oldest South African clubs, relocated to Gauteng from Cape Town after being bought by East Rand business people (the Ndlovu family) last month.
‘We are well aware that Hellenic are lying at the bottom of the log, but I would like to assure the people of East Rand that we are in the elite division to stay,†said club spokesperson Phillip Ramatsebe.
‘We are not even thinking of relegation. We are still going to use the same players who played for us in the First Division under the name Premier United.â€
Ramatsebe said they were going to surprise many people by winning against seasoned campaigners Cosmos. He urged the people of East Rand to support the club.
‘We have registered Sinaba Stadium as our homeground but the problem is that the facility is still being renovated, PAM Brink is our alternative homeground.â€
Ramatsebe added that the new owners of Hellenic are planning to rename the club Benoni Premier United next season. An application will be forwarded to the Premier Soccer League’s executive committee.
The team is coached by former South African Student Sports Union national defender Walter Steenbok, who will be assisted by former Mamelodi United goalkeeper Sonas Malope. — Sapa
