Dynamos squander lead to play to draw

Wits University and relegation-threatened Dynamos played to a three-all draw in a Castle Premiership match at Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday night.

The visitors from Limpopo, who could be excluded from top-flight soccer, have themselves to blame after they squandered a two-goal lead in the second half.

They opened their account in the 23rd minute of the first half through Joel Seroba, who intercepted Anton Greyling before he coolly converted.

The hosts equalised three minutes later when they were awarded a controversial penalty by referee Simon Motau, after an assistant referee sported an infringement in the box.

Captain Charles Yohane brilliantly drilled home a beauty from the resultant sport kick.

In the second half, Dynamos piled on the pressure and were duly rewarded with two goals.

David Mathebula registered his name in the scores list in the 56th minute and Nhlanhla Mbambo added his on the hour mark.

Wits made a double substitution, introducing Gareth Devine and Reagan Noble for Etiene Bito’O and Greyling respectively.

The move brought smiles to the bench when Devine lived up to the expectations of coach Roger de Sa when he made an immediate impact by scoring his side’s second goal in the 74th minute.

The former South Africa under-23 international was back in the much bigger picture five minutes later when he equalised from close range, following a rebound from Dynamos ‘keeper Duncan Mkhonjwa. — Sapa
