Sundowns hammer Arrows

Sundowns beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 4-2 in an impressive Castle Premier League (PSL) match at Odi Stadium near Pretoria on Sunday.

Sundowns’ victory came too late because they are already out of the SAA Supa 8 competition.

The Pretoria-based club took the lead in the fourth minute through defender Marco Mthembu, who caught Arrows goalkeeper Francis Chansa off-guard with a thunderous long range shot.

Attacking midfielder Godfrey Sapula added his name to the scorers’ list. However the visitors, who never gave up the fight, pulled one back in the 58th minute via the silver boot of midfielder Thiyekile Gulwa.

Downs fought back gallantly and their efforts were well rewarded when striker Daniel Mudau’s long shot left Arrows’ keeper Francis Chansa stranded.

As if Mudau’s goal — the third for Downs — was not enough to bring joy to coach Paul Dolezar, late substitute Joseph Mthombeni hit the final nail in the coffin of the Durbanites a few minutes later.

He brilliantly converted a pass from Lucas Sebona. The hosts became complacent and were deservedly punished.

Swaziland international Siza Dlamini reduced Arrows’ deficit when he scored from a free kick. – Sapa
