South African oil and chemicals group Sasol recently opened its 100th service station and is on course to achieve its target of opening 150 service stations by the end of the year, Sasol spokesperson Johann van Rheede said on Monday.
The roll-out of Sasol’s service stations follows the merger between Sasol Oil and Exel Petroleum as well as the termination of the group’s main supply and blue pump agreement at the end of 2003.
As part of the roll-out, Sasol will relocate 1 100 Sasol blue pumps from the forecourts of other companies in South Africa to Sasol and Exel service stations.
The merger will also go towards Sasol meeting its requirements in terms of South Africa’s liquid fuels charter.
Sasol remains in talks about merging with Engen, majority owned by Malaysia’s Petronas. However, Van Rheede said that Sasol had nothing further to add to its previous public statements. — I-Net Bridge
