Former Zimbabwe senior national football squad coach Sunday Marimo is the hot favourite to be appointed new Bush Bucks coach.
The Eastern Cape side have been without a coach following the departure of Mlungisi Ngubane two weeks ago.
Ngubane, who guided Bucks back to the Premiership after winning the first division last season, has since joined Golden Arrows as an assistant coach.
Marimo quit the Zimbabwe senior national football squad at the end of the African Nations Cup finals in Tunisia at the beginning of the year.
Zimbabwe were eliminated in the first round of the competition. The knowledgeable Marimo is regarded as a hero in Zimbabwe after guiding the Warriors to their first ever appearance at the continental tournament.
He was one of the top Southern Africa coaches linked to the vacant Orlando Pirates job before the appointment of Kosta Papic of Yugoslavia early this week.
Following the departure of Ngubane, Bucks management appointed former goalkeeper Nigel Dixon caretaker coach.
He is assisted by former Zimbabwe international defender William Mugeyi, who is still a regular player.
Bucks management are expected to name their new coach in Umtata early next week, two weeks before the start of the new South African football season.
Malawian Kimi Phiri, who is coaching Bakili Bullets, has also been interviewed by Bucks for the job. There is also a possibility that former Bafana Bafana coach Trott Moloto might also rejoin the club as a member of the technical staff. – Sapa
