Hestrie Cloete, South Africa’s golden girl of athletics, continued on her victorious way when she won the high jump at the DN Galan IAAF Super Grand Prix in Stockholm on Tuesday night with a height of 1,97 metres.
Despite the wet and rainy conditions, a capacity crowd packed the famous Olympic stadium for a meeting that once again produced top-class performances.
Cloete, who set a stadium record of 2,01 metres against much stiffer competition a year ago, had Blanka Vlasic of Croatia as her main opponent on this occasion.
The wet conditions made jumping very difficult.
After she had made sure of her victory at 1,97 metres, Cloete had the bar raised to 2,02 metres but she failed with all three attempts. – Sapa
