Safa names new panel of referees

Aldrin ”Ace” Ngobo and Jonas Nhlapo are two of the top South African referees included in the new panel selected for the 2004/05 soccer season.

Also included are the two top match officials who officiated during the African Nations Cup in Tunisia at the beginning of the year, Jerome Damon and Lazarus Matela.

The new panel was selected by the South African Football Association (Safa) following the arrest of about 32 match officials by a special unit investigating allegations of bribery and match-fixing.

It was appointed by the new Safa referees’ technical committee, headed by Phillip Masemola. The new technical committee will be responsible for the appointment of referees and assistant referees. — Sapa
