Prinsloo gets top rugby job

Former Golden Lions Rugby Union CEO Johan Prinsloo was appointed on Wednesday as the managing director of SA Rugby.

The South African Rugby Football Union executive and SA Rugby board confirmed the appointment last Friday. Prinsloo, who has served as acting MD for the past two months, takes up the post with immediate effect.

The board also confirmed the appointment of Mpumelelo Tshume as an independent director. He will also serve on the audit committee.

Tshume has 22 years of business experience. His last formal role was as MD and CEO of the national petroleum company, PetroSA, which he helped to establish. As a player he represented Kwaru as a scrumhalf between 1972 and 1980.

After receiving a nomination from the Springbok players, the board approved the appointment of South African Rugby Players’ Association CEO Piet Heymans to represent the interests of the players at board level.

As a result of the recent resignation of deputy president Keith Parkinson, the following appointments were made: Dolf van Huyssteen will chair the finance committee and the remuneration committee, and Oregan Hoskins will chair the audit committee. Vice-president Mike Stofile was appointed SA Rugby representative to the International Rugby Board. — Sapa
