Hundreds arrested on the East Rand

Police arrested hundreds of people during crime prevention operations on the East Rand over the weekend, a spokesperson said on Sunday.

Sergeant Prudence Mvelase said 454 people were arrested for a variety of crimes, ranging from armed robbery to shoplifting to liquor-related offences.

Five unlicensed firearms were also seized during the sweep and 80 litres of alcohol was confiscated.

Six stolen vehicles were also recovered. – Sapa
