The excitement of acquiring highly touted Zimbabwean coach Sunday Marimo fell flat for Bush Buck fans after the club finally gave up on his services on Tuesday.
Marimo was unveiled at the beginning of the month as the new man to take over the coaching reins of the newly promoted East London outfit following the unexpected departure of Mlungisi Ngubane to Golden Arrows.
The former Zimbabwean national coach was expected to assume his duties at Bucks last Friday but the club received a call from him requesting more time to sort out his personal problems.
Bucks spokesperson Leister Piti revealed on Tuesday that Marimo has claimed to have lost his passport when his car was broken into.
”He claimed to have lost several important documents, including his passport,” he said.
When Marimo wanted more time to acquire a new passport Bucks’ board of directors gave up on his services.
Piti confirmed that the club will appoint a new man from the list of candidates who lost out to Marimo for the job.
Although Piti was tight-lipped about the identity of the new man, it is believed that former Manning Rangers coach and former Bafana Bafana captain Steve Kompela is likely to land the job.
Piti would neither deny nor confirm Kompela’s likely appointment but confirmed that Kompela is one of the candidates who lost out to Marimo.
Kompela has been jobless since he was relieved of his duties at Rangers last season despite taking the team to the Absa Cup finals when they lost 3-1 to Moroka Swallows. — Sapa
