The South African Rugby Football Union (Sarfu) has lauded the Western Province Rugby Football Union’s recent efforts aimed at eradicating violence in club rugby in the province.
The decision by a Western Province Rugby Football Union disciplinary tribunal to ban a club president for life and impose a hefty fine on the club after a recent incidence of violence has been described by Sarfu as a decisive step towards solving the increasing problem.
”In recent weeks, there has been clear evidence that the province takes the violence matter seriously, an example that should be followed by others,” said Sarfu CEO Mveleli Ncula.
”Prior to this a disciplinary tribunal ruled that a club in the province play the remainder of its games away from home, as a result of repeated incidents of violence at their home ground. These are clearly positive steps towards uprooting the problem.” — Sapa
