Zimbabwe caused a major upset when they pipped South Africa’s Banyana Banyana 2-1 during their African Women’s Championships match at Germiston Stadium on Tuesday.
The half-time score was 1-1.
Banyana Banyana were the first to score through captain Portia Modise in the fourth minute. However, Zimbabwe equalised in the 30th minute through Tapfuma Moyo.
Midfielder Marjory Nyaumwe netted Zimbabwe’s winning goal in the 50th minute to register their first victory over Banyana Banyana since 1994.
It was South Africa’s second defeat of the tournament after they were walloped 3-0 by Ghana during their opening match in Pretoria last weekend. — Sapa
