Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday suggested that the easiest way to deal with mercenaries in Africa was to shoot them.
”Mercenaries, you just shoot them. This is a simple matter, it’s not a big problem,” he said in response to a question at a news conference.
Some 68 men were convicted and sentenced in Zimbabwe last month over an alleged plot to overthrow the government in Equatorial Guinea in a coup.
Playing down the threat that mercenaries could pose to governments in Africa, he said even if the mercenaries had succeeded to make it to Equatorial Guinea, they would not have accomplished their mission.
”Even if they had gone, they would have been kicked out,” he said.
Sixty-eight men are serving jail terms in Zimbabwe ranging from one year to seven years over the alleged plot to oust the government in Equatorial Guinea.
One of the 68, a South African, was Tuesday reported to have died from an unspecified illness. – Sapa-AFP
