Boeremag trial delayed after leader takes a fall

The Boeremag treason trial was delayed in the Pretoria High Court on Friday after an alleged altercation between suspected leader Tom Vorster and a fellow accused.

Vorster had to be rushed for medical treatment after he lost his balance and tumbled down stairs between the court cells and the courtroom following the alleged altercation on Friday morning. This resulted in the trial being delayed yet again.

Vorster’s legal representative, Danie Kotze, said his client was being treated for back, head and rib injuries. He was confident that Vorster would be able to continue with the trial on Monday.

Investigating officer Tollie Vreugdenburg said the incident was being investigated.

There have been increasing signs over the recent past weeks that there seemed to be no love lost between Vorster and his fellow accused.

This became apparent after allegations by a State witness, self-confessed coup plotter Henk van Zyl, who accused Vorster of being a government agent and leading his fellow Boeremag members into temptation.

Meanwhile another accused, Kobus Pretorius, was still absent from the proceedings on Friday. Pretorius was admitted to a private hospital after having a breakdown in court, which his father, fellow accused Dr Lets Pretorius, described as a nervous breakdown. – Sapa
