Matric paper leak allegations ‘baseless’

Investigators have found that allegations of matric examination papers leaked in Gauteng were ”baseless and unsubstantiated”, the provincial education department said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi said that according to reports received by the department, ”no single exam paper was leaked and security arrangements were not compromised”.

He said the investigation was continuing to establish whether some of the information received ”leads us to something”.

”We need to find the perpetrators who are spreading the rumours.”

It was alleged on Monday that a business economics paper was leaked in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

A parent also called 702 Talk Radio claiming her daughter, a matriculant at the Pretoria Muslim School in Laudium, had heard rumours that the accounting paper was in circulation.

On Friday, the same paper was alleged to have leaked in Lenasia. — Sapa
