At a special general meeting of the South African Football Association (Safa), held on Saturday in Johannesburg, Danny Jordaan’s reappointment as CEO was confirmed and the national executive committee (NEC) also received an update of the preparations for the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa.
The president of Safa, Molefi Oliphant, informed all the association’s regions that Jordaan has been reappointed as CEO, while Irvin Khoza presented the update on the World Cup.
Oliphant made it clear that Jordaan is no longer part of the 2010 bid committee, which has concluded its business, although he is currently still part of the 2010 preparations committee.
The vacant position of chief operations officer was also discussed after its official vacation by Albert Mokoena, who was also acting CEO, earlier in the week.
The NEC will make a decision on whether it is necessary to fill the post, but the regions made it clear that they want the position advertised with immediate effect.
The NEC then adopted the long overdue financial report for 2002/03, and representatives from the regions demanded that Safa work on the 2003/04 financial report, which should have been presented in September.
Jordaan, who will report for work on Monday and meet the staff, will have a tough task ahead of him to review Safa’s financial state and remedy its tainted image of recent times. — Sapa
