ThisDay staff to hear paper’s future

Staff at ThisDay newspaper will meet on Tuesday for more information on the future of the broadsheet, which suspended publication last week.

The newspaper launched a year ago but failed to hit the streets last week after printers demanded that a contract be signed and promised surety be provided.

Caxton had been printing ”at risk” with a promise of surety since the broadsheet’s previous printer also stopped the presses for financial reasons.

A staffer said a meeting is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, where they will be updated on developments.

Staffers have since received the second half of their September salary and have been promised their October salary by Tuesday.

Their medical aid has also been reactivated and although they have been told that pension fund contributions are up to date, they have not yet been able to verify this, the staffer said.

The editor and publisher could not be contacted for comment. — Sapa
