You’ll need balls for this one

Recipes for kangaroo testicles won’t be knocked until they’re tried next year at the World Testicle Cooking Championships in Serbia, news reports said on Thursday.

The annual event is organised by the Serbian Tourism Board, and an invitation has gone out to Australian chefs to come to Belgrade next year and serve up the delicacies to a judging panel.

Australia’s AAP news agency described testicles as a national dish in Serbia.

The Serbian Tourism Board’s Ljubomir Erovic was quoted as saying that the sweetbreads — or organ meat — could draw in tourists and become a valuable export item.

”We believe the best cooked balls come from Serbia, and we stage this contest to show the world what great dishes can be cooked using testicles, which are known locally here as ‘white kidneys’,” Erovic said.

This year’s contest in the northern village of Savinac was won by Belgrade chef Dejan Milovanovic with his signature bull-and-boar dish. — Sapa-DPA
