Tributes continued on Monday for National Council of Provinces chairperson Joyce Kgoali who died in Johannesburg on Sunday. The African National Congress Women’s League called their late executive committee and working committee member ”unassuming and forthright” with an ”unshakeable” commitment to the
organisation’s policies.
She had dedicated her life to fighting for the rights and freedom of all South Africans and had worked at bringing Parliament to the people, her colleagues at the league said.
The Democratic Alliance said that they were shocked by Kgoali’s death and extended their condolences to her family.
Kgoali died after complications relating to a surgical procedure on Sunday morning.
Kgoali had been chairperson of the parliamentary caucus of the ruling African National Congress prior to the election.
The former trade unionist became a member of the senate after democratic elections in 1994 but served for a spell after 1999 as Gauteng MEC for Public Works and Transport. – I-Net Bridge
