Struggling Manning Rangers have roped former Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker into their technical staff department. The well-travelled Barker has joined the Mighty Maulers, who are lying at the bottom of the Castle Premiership log, as a technical director.
Barker will also be in charge of the club’s development programme.
He will be on the bench when Rangers play against Wits University during their Castle Premiership match at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday night.
Rangers’ management has made it clear that former Orlando Pirates striker Ian Palmer will still be in charge of their technical staff as head coach.
Palmer was offered a two-year contract as coach last week.
Wits are adamant that Rangers, who were mauled 4-1 by Santos during their last match last Wednesday night in Durban, will be shown the stars.
”We cannot afford to lose the match. It is our last match for 2004 before the festive season recess,” said Wits spokesperson George Mogotsi. ”We promise our supporters and sympathisers that they will get a big Christmas present in the form of a convincing win over Rangers.”
The Clever Boys walloped Rangers 3-0 during the Coca-Cola Cup at the same venue two months ago.
