Stars shine against Santos

Silver Stars started the new season on a high note when they beat a struggling Santos 2-0 in their PSL match at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.

The hosts started the match like a house on fire and they showed all the signs of being the better side. The Capetonians went into this match on the back of a 1-0 setback against defending champions Kaizer Chiefs in Johannesburg on Wednesday night.

Stars opened their scoring in the sixth minute when captain Dingane Masanabo headed home a Richard Ferreira corner kick.

December Ngobeni was unlucky not to have scored the second goal for Stars when his close range effort was blocked by the diving Santos goalkeeper, Brendon Wardle, two minutes later.

The Limpopo side increased their tally in the 23rd minute when they were awarded a penalty by referee Sidney Deysel just after Stanley Kgatla was adjudged to have been brought down in the goal-mouth. – Sapa
