Support charity and win

Readers who’d like to support charity and stand in line to win a car for a year can SMS the word “COTY” to 36360. Entrants, who will be asked to predict the winner of the 2005 Car of the Year competition, can record their selections from now until 14 March 2005.

Sending the entry off to 36360 will prompt an immediate SMS reply, giving a three-letter code for each of the eight finalists. The caller is then invited to send a reply SMS, using the code for the finalist of his or her choice. The first and each subsequent SMS will be charged at R5, so the two SMS messages for the first entry will set you back R10.00. Thereafter you’re welcome to make any number of single code entries in the competition at just R5 each.

The 36360 number will accept SMS reply entries right up until the day of the WesBank Awards Banquet on 15 March 2005, and the winning entrant will be contacted by phone on the following day. The prize includes the use of the Car of the Year winner used in the January 2005 evaluation for 12 months, starting next April, as well as a fund to cover fuel for an average year’s driving, free prescribed servicing of the vehicle, and free comprehensive insurance cover. The only cost to the winning motorist is the payment of the excess on any insurance claim made during the period.

The competition is run by the SA Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) and all funds generated will go towards the Guild’s Benevolent Fund.
