Dynamos pulled off one of the most astonishing comebacks in the history of the Premier Soccer League when they came from three goals down to run out 4-3 winners over home-town rivals Black Leopards at the Giyani Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.
What made the result even more amazing was that the teams failed to find the net in a first half that showed little signs of the fireworks to follow in the second period.
This Limpopo derby had all the ingredients of a thrilling game and the supporters enjoyed the match throughout, especially in the second half, which produced all seven goals.
After playing to a scoreless first 45 minutes, Leopards finally broke the ice through an unmarked Mulondo Sikhwivhilu a minute into the second stanza.
Rudzani Ramudzuli then seemed to have wrapped up the points for Shakes Mashaba’s side when he scored a quick-fire brace in the 58th and 61st minutes.
However, instead of being demoralised by going three goals down, the hosts rose to the occasion and were duly rewarded for their efforts when danger man Sandile Ndlovu scored from the penalty spot after Leopards defender Peter Matsitse was judged to have brought down Ntokozo Sikhakhane inside the box in the 65th minute.
Ndlovu scored his second when he beat Leopards goalkeeper Walter Khumalo from close range four minutes later, but Dynamos were far from finished.
A busy Khumalo was then beaten by his own teammate, when Wonder Nhleko’s attempted clearance sliced past the hapless goal minder and levelled matters at 3-3 in the 71st minute.
Dynamos, after conceding three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, had thus managed to level matters with three goals in an exhilarating six-minute burst.
Sikhakhane then completed the remarkable turnaround when he chipped over Khumalo in the 76th minute to seal the win ultimately and collect three points that had seemed the unlikeliest of accomplishments just 25 minutes prior to the final whistle. — Sapa
