SA set challenging target for England

South Africa set England a challenging target of 185 runs to win the fifth castle Lager/MTN cricket Test at Supersport Park on Tuesday. South Africa declared their second innings on 296 for six.

England will need to score at 4,2 runs an over.

Jacques Kallis and newcomer AB de Villiers both moved to milestones after lunch.

Kallis reached his 20th Test century off 164 deliveries in three hours and 12 minutes, and De Villiers, playing in only his fifth Test, scored his maiden Test century a short while later. It had taken him four-and-a-half hours, and came off 164 balls.

Soon after reaching this landmark, De Villiers mistimed a delivery from Simon Jones, and was caught at third man by Matthew Hoggard.

Graeme Smith, Jacques Rudolph and Mark Boucher came and went in quick succession. Steve Harmison took his first wicket on the Highveld when he had Smith caught by the sub, Paul Collingwood, for two, and then bowled Rudolph for three.

Mark Boucher, trying to speed up the run rate, was caught by Marcus Trescothick off Hoggard for six, and Smith called his players in. Jacques Kallis ended the innings not out on 136. — Sapa
