Pirates consolidate their lead

Black Leopards’ losing ways continued after they were beaten 1-0 by Orlando Pirates in a Premier Soccer League match played at Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday.

There was no score at half-time.

Pirates could have taken the lead in the 26th minute after Tyren Arendse failed to convert a clear-cut chance. But Pirates captain Benedict Vilakazi made no such mistake when he headed home a Steve Lekoelea cross in the 50th minute.

Vilakazi nearly scored his brace on the stroke of full-time, but his strike went wide of the target.

This loss for Leopards follows a defeat to Dynamos last week and a 3-0 thrashing from Kaizer Chiefs in midweek.

Pirates have now consolidated their lead on top of the premiership log with 42 points, followed by Chiefs, who are 10 points adrift. — Sapa
