World high-jump champion Jacques Freitag was back on the winning trail on Sunday when he defeated a strong international field at the 2005 Tallinn Indoor Jumping Gala with a height of 2,28m.
His win came after a lacklustre performance at the Stockholm meeting last Tuesday when he could not manage a height better than 2,21m.
His winning clearance equalled his best of the year and the South African indoor record that he had established in Bydgoszcz, Poland, at the end of January.
The tall Pretoria athlete succeeded to win the competition with his third attempt at 2,28m after clearing 2,22m and 2,25m.
Marko Aleksejev, a local Estonian athlete, finished second, with Mark Boswell of Canada in third spot, both succeeding at 2,25m.
South African Morne Nagel managed a runaway victory in the 60m sprint with a time of 6,65 seconds. — Sapa
