A hat-trick by Santos’ Jean MarcIthier helped to bury the second-division outfit Cemforce from Kimberley by 6-0 in an Absa Cup knockout match played at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
Santos led 3-0 at half-time.
However, credit must go to Cemforce, who never said die and chased every ball as if their lives depended on it. As a whole, Santos were poor as they missed many scoring opportunities and it took them a full 20 minutes to open the score through Rueben Cloete.
Five minutes later, a melee formed and Thembile Kukane added the home side’s second. MarcIthier made it three when he scored from 55m.
The visitors almost scored in the 45th minute when a shot from Ivan Williams was well saved by goalkeeper Brendon Wardle.
MarcIthier headed in his second goal in the 62nd minute and then converted a penalty in the 79th minute. Marawaan Bantam scored in the 80th minute. — Sapa
