Cosmos, Wits in goalless draw

Jomo Cosmos and Wits University played to a goalless draw in a dull Castle Premier Soccer League match at the Rand Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides had their chances but neither team could find the back of the net.

Cosmos midfielder Innocent Ntsume tested Wayne Roberts in the 17th minute but the Wits goalkeeper managed to parry the ball away for a corner kick.

Three minutes later, Cosmos’ Chris Katango had his chance but again Roberts foiled the attempt.

In the 24th minute, Wits striker Gareth Devine shot straight to Cosmos goalkeeper Avril Thali, who easily dealt with the effort.

In the 41st minute, Cosmos’ Itumeleng Sekwale took a place kick from just outside the penalty area but Nkosinathi Nhleko’s header attempt missed the goal.

In the second half, Jomo Sono changed three players in the Cosmos team, ejecting off-form striker Ishmael Maluleke for Russell Mwafulirwa in the 57th minute, and pulling off his own son, Bamuza Sono, in the 62nd minute for Lefa Tsutsulupa. Ntsume was replaced by Tebogo Mothaleng in the 75th minute

Wits coach Roger de Sa made his first change one minute into the second half when he pulled off Anton Greyling for Richard Ferreira.

Alois Bunjira was replaced by Jonathan Solomon in the 59th minute, and Devine came off for Sydney Nkalanga in the 67th minute.

However, all their attempts failed to yield a goal from either team.

Wits are still in 12th place on the log on 25 points, while Cosmos remain in the relegation zone in 14th place on 22 points with seven games remaining. — Sapa
