In the zone

Basketball is the fastest growing sport on the African continent and reaches athletes across racial, cultural, age and gender barriers.

Engen, in conjunction with Basketball South Africa (BSA), has developed a television programme, In the Zone, that will reach a wide spectrum of potential and current basketball players and fans in the next four years. This exciting 24-minute programme began on April 15 and will be aired every week at 1pm. The programme combines local and international basketball news, views and interviews and features players, clubs and coaches.

For the last three years, Engen has been committed to the development of schools basketball. The 2001 Engen under 18 basketball challenge began in May with district league games. These district games eventually led, through elimination, to the provincial challenges. The finest players (boys and girls) have been selected at provincial level, and these players will represent their province in the Engen under 18 national championships from July 7 to 11. The national teams to be chosen will represent South Africa in the Engen under 18 African challenge.
