Motorcycle heaven at Kyalami

Motorcyclists past, present and future will converge on Kyalami this weekend for the fifth annual Mecer Motorcycle Expo. There they will be exposed to the very best of motorcycling, with quads, superbikes, commuter machines and scooters from all the importers being available for testing.

Among the latest machines available for test rides will be the three-cylinder 1 050cc Triumph Sprint ST and Speed Triple, the Suzuki GSXR1000, the Yamaha MT 01 and the R6 Rossi Replica, the Kawasaki ZX 636 and KLE 500, and BMW’s first proper superbike, the K1200 S.

There will be dirt bikes and quads galore for testing in off-road conditions, and a scooter training course on a special track. There will also be loads of entertainment with the Buell stunt team, Freestyle Moto-X, a Big Boy scooterboard display, a stunning display by stunt rider Brian Capper, and — most exciting of all — a BMW Boxer Cup race at noon on Saturday.

The gates will be open from 9am to 6pm from Saturday to Monday, and entrance is R30 per person.

To test-ride a bike, you’ll need to produce a driver’s licence, but if you don’t have one, you can still enjoy a lap around the famous racetrack on the pillion behind a qualified instructor.
